Arbutus Technology

The Arbutus solution is simple to implement and deploy, giving organizations flexibility in how they provide access to their legacy data. The separate components of the solution work in concert to provide a single unified view of your data.

Arbutus technology includes three key components:

  • The Arbutus Data Engines (Mainframe, AS/400, Windows and Linux)
  • The Analyzer administrative and query client
  • The LegacyLink™ client

Each of these components installs easily, and even the mainframe data engine requires only a minimum of IT support. You need no additional components or infrastructure (from Arbutus or others), even when your needs involve combining data from multiple disparate sources.

Each of our packages is built as a combination of these components.

LEGACYLINK™

LegacyLink™ provides any Windows application, including end-user, server or web service, seamless access to any server data. Because the ODBC standard is used, this data is also fully compatible with other data interfaces, such as OLE/DB, JDBC or .NET.

ANALYZER

Analyzer is a Windows based end-user tool that accesses server data. It is used to create data definitions that are utilized throughout the product suite. As well, Analyzer is itself a full featured query and analysis tool, providing a wide variety of reporting and analysis capabilities.

ARBUTUS DATA ENGINES

These data engines provide data access and application processing support for both LegacyLink™ and Analyzer.

  • The Mainframe (zSeries) Data Engine provides access to virtually all mainframe data sources, and allows the transparent joining of data from disparate sources
  • The AS/400 (iSeries) Data Engine provides access to DB2, IFS, flat and spool files and allows the transparent joining of data from disparate sources
  • Windows Data Engine provides direct access to SQL Server, Oracle and DB2 in addition to being fully compatible with all legacy data types (It can be used as an application server or to stage data for off loading resource demands)
  • Linux Data Engine is fully compatible with all legacy data types, with no transformations required, and can be used to host staged data from multiple platforms
