The Arbutus technology allows any Windows application to directly connect to virtually mainframe and AS/400 legacy data, without the high cost, complexity or prolonged implementation cycle typical of legacy data access. This includes your non-relational (flat) files on the mainframe, in addition to VSAM, IMS or DB2. Data from any of these sources can appear as a relational table in a unified database. To a Windows application, this virtual database is indistinguishable from a data warehouse.

Arbutus’s data access technology offers compelling benefits when addressing challenges in a variety of different application areas. Following is a summary of some important application areas, together with common challenges that the Arbutus technology can eliminate.

Area

Challenge

BI

Inexpensively accessing vast legacy data stores

Data Conversion

Efficiently addressing ad-hoc data conversions

Data Migration

Accessing your legacy data with modern tools

Data Mining

Allowing tools access to the vast legacy data pools

DQM

Ensuring ETL transforms don’t mask data quality problems

Data Warehousing

Easily validating requirements before implementation

EII

Integrating disparate mainframe data sources

ETL

Cost effectively accessing mainframe legacy data

Exception Reporting

Supporting business logic triggers without data repositories

Query & Analysis

Supporting departmental information needs without data marts

Virtual Data Marts

Effectively addressing small data marts

Web Services

Accessing legacy information that is not in the data warehouse
